Attentional templates are sharpened through differential signal enhancement, not differential allocation of attention

چکیده
In visual search, the internal representation of target feature is referred to as attentional template. The template can be broad or precise depending on task requirements. singleton because only colored element in display. a required specific color an array varied colors. To measure precision template, we used cue-target paradigm where cueing benefits decrease when cue differs from color. Consistent with and templates, effects was stronger than search. Measurements ERPs showed that N2pc elicited by decreased increasing difference, suggesting attention more strongly captured cues were similar target. However, cue-elicited did not differ between making it unlikely reflect mechanism underlying precision. Furthermore, there no evidence for suppression PD, even conditions benefit turned into same-location cost. index signal enhancement, contralateral positivity, reflected general, sensory enhancement stimulus appearing at cued location search With any enhanced, whereas restricted target-matching colors templates.

Modulation of the attentional blink by differential resource allocation.
When one masked target (T2) follows another (T1) in close temporal proximity, identification accuracy of the second target is reduced for a period referred to as the attentional blink. Analysis of the attentional blink literature suggests that increasing the difficulty of T1 processing increases the magnitude of the blink. In a previous study that eliminated several untoward features of the typ...

To describe the ability of image fractional differential in texture detail enhancement and to study the lateral inhibition principle, multiform masks for digital image fractional differential and their operation rules are discussed. The theoretical basis of fractional differential in modulation and demodulation is also analyzed. Through the derivation on the relation between fractional differen...
متن کاملThe differential effects of reward on space- and object-based attentional allocation.
Estimating reward contingencies and allocating attentional resources to a subset of relevant information are the most important contributors to increasing adaptability of an organism. Although recent evidence suggests that reward- and attention-based guidance recruits overlapping cortical regions and has similar effects on sensory responses, the exact nature of the relationship between the two ...
متن کاملElastic Attention: Enhanced, then Sharpened Response to Auditory Input as Attentional Load Increases
A long debate in selective attention research is whether attention enhances sensory response or sharpens neural tuning by suppressing response to non-target input. In fact, both processes may occur as a function of load: an uncertain listener might use a broad attentional filter to enhance responses to all inputs (i.e., vigilance), yet employ sharpened tuning to focus on hard to discriminate ta...
متن کاملThe attentional blink freezes spatial attention allocation to targets, not distractors: evidence from human electrophysiology.
Previous work found a significant reduction of the amplitude of the N2pc ERP component during the attentional blink in response to lateral visual targets, suggesting that the allocation of attention to visual targets is impaired during the attentional blink. Recent theorizing on the processes reflected by the N2pc suggests the possibility of distinct sets of neural mechanisms underlying its gen...
